Overview
BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery) is the basic degree in Unani medicine, a traditional system that came to India from the Greco-Arab tradition. You study Unani principles and texts along with modern anatomy, physiology and clinical subjects. The course is regulated by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM). Admission is through NEET UG. A special rule applies to BUMS: you need Urdu, Arabic or Persian as a subject in Class 10, or you must clear a Class 10 level Urdu test where the state allows it. The AACCC handles all-India seats.

Eligibility
Typical pattern. The official notice for the current year is final.
- Class 12 (or equivalent) from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Biotechnology.
- Language rule: the NEET UG 2026 bulletin says a BUMS candidate must have passed Class 10 with Urdu, Arabic or Persian as a subject, or clear the Class 10 level Urdu test where such a test is held by a university, board or authorised body.
- You must qualify NEET UG. The qualifying mark in the 2026 bulletin is the 50th percentile for General and General-EWS, the 40th percentile for SC, ST and OBC (non-creamy layer), and the 45th percentile for General candidates with benchmark disability.
- Age: 17 years on or before 31 December of the year of admission is the rule for undergraduate medical courses. Check the NCISM notice for the year you apply.
- Class 12 minimum marks in PCB were earlier set by NCISM. Reports say NCISM removed this for the Ayurveda course from 2025. We could not read the NCISM text, so check the current NCISM notice for BUMS.
- Central government can lower the NEET UG percentile for a year, and state counselling can add domicile and category rules.
