Overview

Uzbekistan is a Central Asian country whose medical education offer for international students has grown in recent years, and Indian families sometimes ask about it for MBBS. Because newer programmes and arrangements may have shorter track records, it is especially important to verify the particular university and programme against the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations for your year of admission: at least 54 months of instruction, English medium throughout, an internship of at least 12 months in the same institution and a valid NEET UG qualification. Also read the Indian Embassy and MEA advisories yourself. Your counsellor checks each point in writing before you commit, and we make no promise of any outcome.

Uzbek medical universities describe their general medicine programmes as about 5 to 6 years, depending on the university and faculty. NMC needs at least 54 months of instruction plus a 12-month internship in the same institution, so confirm the exact structure in writing.

Rules and regulations in Uzbekistan

  • Admission requirements for international students are set by each university, usually Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. For Indian students, NEET UG qualification is also needed under NMC rules. Check each university's own admission page.
  • Students normally enter on a student visa arranged through the university's invitation. Rules change, so confirm the current visa and residence-registration steps with the university and the Uzbek embassy.
  • Some universities teach in Uzbek, Russian and English. Ask for written confirmation that your group is taught in English throughout, and what local language you will need in hospitals.
  • Higher education in Uzbekistan is overseen by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, and medical institutes also work with the Ministry of Health. Ask the university which body awards your degree.
  • Some Uzbek medical institutes have branches or partner arrangements in other cities or countries. Confirm where every year of study and the internship will take place.
  • Check whether any part of the programme is online. The NMC rules do not accept online or distance education for this degree, so ask for the written policy.
  • Check the World Directory of Medical Schools (wdoms.org) and NMC notices for the university and your year of admission. Do not rely on an agent's statement.

After MBBS: the next steps

  • Back in India, a foreign medical graduate must pass the screening test required by NMC, then do a supervised internship in India as per NMC rules.
  • After the internship, registration is with the State Medical Council or the NMC, as the rules of that year say.
  • For postgraduate study in India, NEET PG is the usual route; check eligibility for foreign graduates in the current notice.
  • Uzbekistan has its own residency and postgraduate training for medical graduates. Whether it is open to foreign graduates, and in which language, must be checked with the university.
  • International exams such as USMLE (USA), PLAB (UK) and AMC (Australia) are options some graduates consider. Check eligibility directly with each exam body.
  • Keep your transcripts, internship certificate and degree attested, because the NMC and any other authority will ask for them.

Questions to verify before you commit

  • Is the university listed and recognised by the education authority of the country, and is the programme acceptable under the NMC FMGL Regulations for your year of admission? Ask for this in writing.
  • Will the whole programme, including clinical years, be taught and examined in English? Ask what the student will need in the local language for hospital work.
  • Will the internship of the required length be done in the same institution where the student studies? Ask who certifies it and in what form.
  • Does the student hold, or will the student hold, a valid NEET UG qualification as required for your admission year? Check the current NMC notice.
  • What is the name and format of the screening test required by NMC today, who conducts it, and what must be submitted to NMC to be eligible to appear? Read the latest NMC and NBEMS notices yourself.
  • What does the Indian Embassy for the country and the MEA currently advise for travel and for students? Read the advisory pages directly and again before departure.
  • What are the arrangements for hostel, food suited to your family, health insurance and medical care in Uzbekistan? Ask for them in writing.
  • What does the admission letter, agreement and refund policy say? Read every clause and ask for an itemised written statement of all charges before paying anything.
  • Is the programme taught by the university itself, or is it offered through a partnership or a branch? Ask which institution awards the degree and where the clinical training and internship take place.
  • Is the programme's English-medium status and approval for international students recorded in an official document for your admission year? Ask to see it.

Frequently asked questions

Is an MBBS from Uzbekistan valid in India?

It can be, if the university and the programme meet the NMC Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations in force for your admission year and the graduate then clears the screening test required by NMC and completes the internship in India as the rules say. Validity is checked university by university and year by year, so confirm it in writing from NMC sources.

How long is the MBBS programme abroad?

The NMC regulations require at least 54 months of instruction, and an internship of at least 12 months in the same institution where the student studied. A programme shorter than this, or an internship done elsewhere, may not be accepted. Always check the current NMC notice.

Is NEET compulsory to study MBBS abroad?

For Indian students who want to practise in India after a foreign degree, NMC rules require a valid NEET UG qualification. A university may admit you without it, but that does not change what NMC requires. Check the rule for your admission year.

Can I study in my own language or in the local language?

The NMC rules require English as the medium for the whole programme. Even so, students often need the local language to talk to patients during clinical training, so ask the university how this is handled.

What exam must I pass to practise in India?

Graduates from abroad must clear the screening test that NMC requires. Its name, pattern and conducting body have changed over time, so read the latest NMC and NBEMS notices. We explain the current position to you at the start.

Is it safe to study in Uzbekistan?

We do not make safety judgements. The Indian Embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs publish advisories for Indian citizens. Read them before you decide, and again before travel. Situations can change.

Can you promise a medical licence or a seat?

No. Admission is decided by the university, and the licence in India depends on the student meeting the NMC rules and clearing the required test. We help you check, prepare and avoid mistakes, but we cannot promise any outcome.

Which documents do I need?

Usually class 10 and 12 certificates and marksheets, NEET UG scorecard, passport, photographs, medical and other certificates, and attested copies as the university and embassy ask. The exact list and attestation steps depend on the university and year, so we give you a written list.

Do you guarantee admission or licensing outcomes?

No. Admission is decided by the university and licensing by the relevant authority. We verify, explain and support; we do not promise outcomes.
