Overview
Bangladesh is a neighbouring country with medical colleges that teach in English. We have not found anything in the NMC notices we read that sets a separate rule for Bangladesh, so the general FMGL Regulations apply: a minimum of 54 months of study, English medium, a 12-month internship in the same institution, and the screening test required by NMC. Check the Indian High Commission and MEA advisories before planning travel, and the NMC notices for any change. Confirm every point in writing before paying anything.

Course duration
Colleges in Bangladesh describe MBBS as a five-year course of study followed by a one-year internship. NMC needs at least 54 months of instruction plus a 12-month internship in the same institution, so confirm the exact structure in writing.

Rules and regulations in Bangladesh
- Medical education in Bangladesh is regulated by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). Colleges are affiliated to a university, and that university awards the degree. Ask which one.
- Foreign students are generally admitted through a government process run by the Directorate General of Medical Education and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Check the current circular, because dates and rules change every session.
- Past circulars have set a limit on the share of seats in a private college that may go to foreign students, and have asked for a passport from a country with diplomatic relations with Bangladesh.
- Colleges usually ask for 12 years of schooling with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, a minimum score in school-leaving results, and attested certificates. The exact conditions are set each year, so use the current circular.
- The language of teaching is English, but patients in hospitals mostly speak Bengali. Ask how clinical training is handled for foreign students.
- Indian students should have qualified NEET UG as the NMC requires. Check the current NMC notice for your admission year.
- NMC requires that the whole programme is completed in the same country and that the graduate is eligible to practise there. Ask how BMDC registration works for foreign graduates.
- Check the Indian High Commission in Dhaka and Ministry of External Affairs advisories before planning travel.
After MBBS: the next steps
- Back in India, a foreign medical graduate must pass the screening test required by NMC, which is currently the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) until the National Exit Test applies. Check the current NMC notice.
- After the test, a supervised internship of 12 months in India is needed, as the current NMC notices describe, followed by registration with the NMC or a State Medical Council.
- For postgraduate study in India, the doctor then appears for NEET PG and takes part in counselling like other candidates.
- Bangladesh has its own postgraduate training system, but foreign graduates should ask the relevant Bangladeshi authority whether a place is open to them.
- Some graduates consider international exams such as USMLE, PLAB or the AMC exams. Each body sets its own rules, so check with them directly.

No. The NMC FAQ says the course and internship must be in the same foreign institution, and a separate supervised internship in India is also required for licensing.
Is a licensing test required in India?
Yes. The NMC requires the screening test, the National Exit Test or another test it mandates. Check the current name and pattern in NMC notices.
Is there a separate NMC rule for Bangladesh?
We did not find one in the notices we read. Check the NMC site for the latest.
Where do I check travel advice?
Read the advisories of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian High Commission, and follow them.
Is there a time limit for finishing the course?
The NMC FAQ states the course must be completed within ten years from the date of joining.
Does this site promise admission or licensing?
No. We give guidance only; the decision rests with the university and the NMC.
Do you guarantee admission or licensing outcomes?
No. Admission is decided by the university and licensing by the relevant authority. We verify, explain and support; we do not promise outcomes.
