Overview

BPT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy) trains you to help people recover movement and function after injury, surgery, stroke, or long-term conditions, using exercise, movement therapy and other physical methods. It is an allied health course. Under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021, the regulator for physiotherapy is the NCAHP and its physiotherapy council. Unlike MBBS and the Ayush degrees, BPT is not listed in the NTA NEET UG 2026 bulletin. Admission rules differ by university and state, and some may start to use NEET scores. Always read the notice of your university or state.

Eligibility

Typical pattern. The official notice for the current year is final.

  • Class 12 (or equivalent) from a recognised board with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Many universities also ask for English.
  • Minimum marks in the qualifying subjects and any lower figure for reserved categories are set by the university or state. Many university notices use 50% for General and less for reserved categories, but this is not the same everywhere.
  • Age: most universities ask for 17 years by 31 December of the year of admission or by a date they publish.
  • Entrance exam: the NTA NEET UG 2026 bulletin covers MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BSMS and BHMS, and does not list BPT. Some universities and states have said they will use NEET for allied courses from 2026-27. We could not confirm this from an NCAHP notice, so read the notice of your university and state.
  • Some states hold their own counselling for BPT on Class 12 marks or on an entrance exam. Rules for NRI and foreign candidates are set by the institution.
  • Check that the college is recognised by its university and meets NCAHP requirements before you take a seat.

Entrance and counselling

  • There is no single national exam written into the NEET UG 2026 bulletin for BPT. Routes differ by university and state.
  • Some state governments hold central counselling for BPT seats in government and private colleges, based on Class 12 marks or an entrance test.
  • Many universities and deemed universities run their own application, merit list or entrance test.
  • Some institutions have said that from 2026-27 they will admit through NEET scores under NCAHP guidance. This is not in the NTA NEET UG bulletin, so confirm with the NCAHP and the institution.
  • Government, private and deemed colleges differ in fees and seats. The fee and process are set by the state or university.
  • NCAHP has notified competency based curricula for allied professions including physiotherapy, with implementation from the 2026-27 academic year. Colleges will follow it.
  • After the degree, you register with the state or national register for physiotherapists as notified under the NCAHP Act.
