MBBS in India or abroad: how to decide

A balanced framework for choosing between MBBS in India and MBBS abroad: eligibility, recognition, licensing, total cost and your goals.

Start with your goal, not the cost

The right choice depends on what you want: to practise in India, to specialise, to work abroad or simply to become a doctor. Each goal changes which options make sense.

Questions that decide it

  • Do you have a realistic seat in India (government or private) in your rank range, and can your family afford it?
  • If you go abroad, is the university recognised for Indian students under the rules in force?
  • Are you prepared for the licensing or screening exam to practise in India after returning?
  • Can you manage the language, climate, distance and living conditions?
  • What is the total cost, including living, travel and exam preparation, and not only tuition?

MBBS in India: strengths and trade-offs

  • Strengths: direct fit with the Indian system, clinical exposure in familiar settings, straightforward PG path.
  • Trade-offs: competitive seats, high private fees in many states, rules that vary by quota and state.

MBBS abroad: strengths and trade-offs

  • Strengths: access to a medical seat for students who qualify but did not get an Indian seat they can afford.
  • Trade-offs: recognition and licensing requirements, quality differences between universities, and the need to verify everything independently.

Our approach

We help you compare both paths on your own numbers. Abroad is the only overseas pathway we support, and only after your eligibility and the university's recognition are verified in writing. Rules change, so confirm everything against the current National Medical Commission notice.
